Encounters — The Arts of Africa:
exhibition graphic design
The University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign’s Krannert Art Museum reinstalled their collection of African art in 2012, incorporating a minimal, highly aesthetic vocabulary that presents these functional objects as high art. Working as part of a collaborative team that included curators, architects, and multimedia designers, we developed the installation’s graphic and information design as a prototype for use in the rest of the museum. The installation brings together video, maps, comparative imagery, and contemporary art; providing social context for the works while allowing space and time for reflection.
