Syracuse University, College of Visual and Performing Arts: visual identity program
The identity for Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts is based on the idea of original technology — those rudimentary tools used as the basis for all work, including the arts (i.e., the pencil). The mark, made of pins and rubber bands, captures the concept’s appropriated nature.
The website builds on the idea’s technological equivalent — blog posts and Tweets, the web’s elementary tools — which are extended in the College’s environmental graphics. A collaborative effort between architects, university staff, and designers, the environmental graphics both identify the college to a variety of publics and translate its spirit through the collected voices of hundreds of faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
